This academic year, the Faculty of Business Administration started with an exciting chapter in its history, by offering business education at the new Lakehead University campus in Orillia, Ontario. In the last few years exciting developments are in keeping with the recent history of our school. Since 2003, we have experienced significant achievements and transformations. We earned accreditation from the Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA). We established two masters programs. We have provided learning environments which cultivate a balanced theoretical and practical experience for our students through scholarships, international exchanges, student organizations, consulting opportunities and business competitions.
We have one of the finest undergraduate business programs in Canada as witnessed by the awards won in various competitions and the standings achieved by our graduates in professional certifications and graduate studies. While requiring that all students gain a comprehensive understanding of the core business disciplines, we do so early in their program, thereby permitting students to choose fields of study in which real depth is possible through a significant range of advanced courses. These advanced courses are constantly under revision to reflect the changing business environment.
Our new graduate program departs from traditional business programs, reflecting new perspectives and permitting what we consider to be a greater focus on the specific interests of our students. Again, greater emphasis is placed on specializations and applied research. These initiatives continue to bring new energy and vitality to the school.
In my capacity as Dean, I have served this school and its stakeholders for twelve years now, a time of dramatic changes in business practices and global policy. In the light of today's rapidly changing business world, business schools continue to face many challenges. In order to meet the needs of management in this volatile environment, our efforts continue to be focused on the development of new knowledge, new perspectives and new ways of learning. Along with my colleagues in the Faculty of Business Administration, I remain committed to this endeavour and I look forward to working with all stakeholders to build a better future.
